how you doing I'm Brian Cel we're going
0:04
to swap out a starter here first you
0:07
want to do disconnect the negative
0:08
battery terminal you don't want to short
0:10
out anything cuz that' be a bad thing
0:12
end up leeding into fires and all kinds
0:14
of bad other stuff a lot ofs so what we
0:17
have here is this starter right here if
0:20
you can see
0:21
it that's a 1969 and earlier starter you
0:26
can tell by the solenoid area right here
0:29
1979 up has two little bolt-on
0:34
areas okay here's a correctly restored
0:37
one that I did for Dave as you can
0:40
see the 1970 and Up Style has two little
0:43
ears that bolt on the 1969 and earlier
0:46
style did not so we're going to be
0:48
putting this one in one second so as I
0:50
said you disconnect the negative uh
0:52
battery terminal so you don't get any
0:53
Sparks

1:31
got the wire off just move that up and
1:33
out of the
1:34
way 11:32 and a/2 in uh sockets we'll
1:38
take that off no
1:42
problem right now let's get the nuts and
1:44
the bolts off the H starter in place
1:51
[Applause]
1:53
[Music]
2:04
[Applause]
2:07
now that we have the electrical
2:09
connectors out of the way moved up there
2:11
going to remove that bolt and that nut
2:13
and then the starter will come right out
2:15
fortunately this is a slant 6 engine car
2:18
otherwise you'd have to go from
2:19
underneath for a uh big block and a
2:21
small block
2:55
we still do not have an answer for our
2:56
last question and that was what kind of
2:58
car was a
3:01
little we all know super what is the
3:07
back
3:09
1116
3:10
socket with a
3:16
nut to get the bolt

3:56
had before I had 38 I had had
4:02
okay and here we have it out I'll lay
4:04
him side by side so you can see the
4:12
differences now this is was talking put
4:15
this one
4:18
down 69 and
4:21
older 69 or 70 and
4:24
newer so you see the minor differences
4:27
between the two
4:35
work work on a couple of
4:39
thirs ready line one ready line one
5:20
yeah yeah yeah
5:31
all right pause that for a second
6:12
should go in it came the old one came
6:19
[Music]
6:21
out into a little bit of problems this
6:23
starter here is a little bit
6:25
[Music]
6:27
bigger the only difference that we had
6:29
to do we have to move the downshift
6:31
linkage off of the
6:33
carburetor now we can start boting this
6:36
back
6:41
in keep in mind if your car's an
6:43
automatic you're going to have a uh
6:45
little bit of a shim that's on there
6:48
okay Vinnie from new

6:55
MILF reinstallation is basically in
6:58
reverse order of what we took it out
7:02
I got a swivel on here I may need to use
7:04
a uh open-ended wrench sometimes
7:07
depending upon clearance this snugged up
7:10
and then I'll get out of wrench
7:14
[Applause]
7:16
[Music]
7:18
[Applause]
7:23
just knock that down
7:27
[Music]
7:35
[Applause]
7:35
[Music]
7:46
back on and then we're pretty much good
7:48
to go after we hook up the wiring
8:02
vehicle where you cannot reach it
8:05
[Music]
8:11
[Music]
8:21
easily okay the bottom one snug all we
8:24
have to do is hook up the electrical
8:25
connections and then hook up the
8:27
downshift uh rod and we should be done
8:30
now these look pretty clean but as habit
8:32
I have I'm going to take a little bit of
8:34
sandpaper just to clean up the
8:36
connections we don't have any gemel to
8:38
worry about what two companies form for
8:42
American Motors AMC our next question
8:45
1954 what two companies merg to former
8:48
American Motors you see some AFC
8:50
