this is a very short video to help you
0:02
to install pspp on your Mac pspp is free
0:06
and open- Source software but it is not
0:10
signed by an apple certificate so you
0:12
have to go through an extra step so what
0:14
we're doing now is as you can see I'm
0:16
downloading it and while it's
0:18
downloading I'm going into the security
0:20
and privacy control panel unlocking it
0:23
putting in my password and then allowing
0:27
programs from the App Store and other
0:29
Developers
0:30
then when it finally downloads I open up
0:33
the DMG file just like any other
0:36
software it goes through a little
0:38
verification
0:40
process and then I see it right there
0:42
now I can open it right from where it is
0:44
by right clicking and selecting open you
0:47
can't just double click the first time
0:49
in the future you can double click But
0:51
first you have to say open because it'll
0:53
give you this little dialogue box that
0:55
asks you are you sure you want to
0:57
install it and then it works just as
0:59
normal
1:01
now I'm going to drag it onto my hard
1:02
drive and into the applications folder
1:04
just like I was going to use it in more
1:06
than once and I do the same thing I
1:09
right click say open it goes through
1:11
verification and then it asks me if I'm
1:14
sure and then it opens right up using
1:17
home brew which I've already got
1:19
installed on my Mac and we're going to
1:22
do it through terminal so I'm at the
1:24
current pspp page see I'm going to click
1:27
on download and you noce notice that
1:30
here we have an application bundle which
1:32
is how we got that first version Mac
1:35
ports and pspp Brew so you can ask why
1:39
am I using Homebrew instead of Mac ports
1:42
and the answer is because I've already
1:44
got it installed so it's extremely
1:46
simple on how you do this so we're just
1:49
going to copy these two commands I'm
1:52
going to do it one at a time here but
1:53
you can do them both at once so the
1:56
first one does uh seems to do nothing
1:59
right but when you do the second one or
2:02
let's get the latest development
2:04
version you just
2:06
copy
2:09
paste so this is the uh long statement
2:15
it takes a long time before you get
2:17
anything if you look at where it says
2:19
default up on top you can see it's going
2:22
between other
2:24
programs and this is a feature of iterm
2:26
I don't know if terminal would do it
2:29
iterm is an excellent terminal program
2:31
which I strongly recommend that you get
2:33
now here you see that's auto updating
2:35
home brew that's something I really
2:38
should have done myself so I'm doing it
2:40
now and all I had to do is type in the
2:41
words Brew upgrade and if you go back a
2:45
bit then you'll see where I type that in
2:49
Brew upgrade and it does this and this
2:52
is very fast and this is just
2:54
downloading various things it's going to
2:55
use and then what will happen is it'll
2:58
get painfully slow in a couple of
3:01
minutes and so I'm going to switch to
3:03
extra fast but this whole process can
3:06
take half of an hour to an
3:08
hour and it seems to stall a lot but
3:12
again if you use iterm instead of
3:14
terminal as I'm doing then when you look
3:16
up at the top of the screen over there
3:18
you'll see it says default Ruby and
3:21
it'll switch over and it'll show you
3:24
which program it's really running behind
3:26
the
3:27
scenes as the script goes from program
3:30
to program and that's helpful partly so
3:32
that you know that it has installed out
3:35
so now we're running it at 20 times
3:37
speed which is to say I'm speeding up
3:40
the movie that you see behind you to 20
3:43
times the actual speed and what's going
3:46
on right now as you can see is it's
3:48
basically stuck on configuring setting
3:52
up pspp the updated version of it it did
3:56
a little screen saver for a moment and
3:58
now it's back and it's just here again
4:00
you can see it going between various
4:03
programs up above it can take about 20
4:06
minutes under make up to half of an hour
4:09
or so and then it does make check for a
4:12
long time there doesn't seem to be much
4:15
point in filming this so I'll just show
4:17
you a
4:18
screenshot and then we'll see what
4:21
happens next ah here we go now it's all
4:25
done and as you can see it took just
4:27
about 1 hour to up upgrade pspp and
4:31
that's just about how long it'll take to
4:33
install it in the first place so be
4:36
patient do something else while it's
4:39
working and you'll have a beautiful pspp
4:43
installation when you're all done just
4:44
for your computer
