General Motors appears to be determined to be America’s choice for electric cars with a new, value-priced 2027 Chevrolet Bolt starting at $28,595.
The name is old but the car is brand new; it can be charged more than twice as quickly using public DC chargers, has a larger interior with new technology, and a new RS trim level. The interior appears to be more upscale than the older model, which cost thousands more. It has an 11-inch center screen and an 11-inch digital gauge cluster.

The interior is larger, especially with an underfloor storage compartment (four cubic feet), but the exterior continues to be fairly small for easy parking. The 2027 Bolt will have four new colors, three of which are “high-impact”—atomic yellow, habanero orange, and marina blue (the relic green metallic is not quite as bright).
The Bolt will come with an NACS charging port compatible with Tesla’s network and a 210-hp motor; the RS is mainly an appearance package. Both have around 255 miles of range and an eight year, 100,000 mile battery warranty.
A privacy-invading Google Assistant is unfortunately standard, while wireless phone charging is optional and Apple CarPlay is not available at all. Super Cruise, the full self driving feature for certain roads, is optional, as is adaptive cruise control and front and rear park assistance (using alerts and sensors, not automatic parking).
Stellantis claimed to be working on a $25,000 electric car for the United States earlier this year.
Yesterday, Tesla announced somewhat lower prices for less well-equipped versions of its existing cars.
