Alfa Romeo yesterday unveiled the 2026 Tonale, which they describe as having “iconic Italian design, class-leading driving dynamics and cutting-edge technology… [in a] bold new special edition.”
We sent their release and the photos over to the Allpar folk to get their comments on the Alfa-modified Jeep Compass which until recently was also sold in Dodge Hornet form. They were less impressed than the gushing press release writer.

For one thing, the images don’t show a huge amount of change. suzq044 pointed to the somewhat revised front plastic and the larger wheel holes—with just three openings, they’re much larger than the five openings in the last model. ikrvrn was happy that they started centering the license plates, rather than having them off to the side. Cleffy pointed out that they made the Alfa center triangle less intrusive, and pointed out that Alfa’s design language is harder with today’s wide fronts.
None of the sheet metal stampings seem to have changed, though, and the 2.0 liter powertrain was already available. Pumadog pointed out the “wider stance [and] new steering and damper configuration.” He said it looked more planted, with a wider, lower intake. You can judge for yourself from the two photos above, though the newer photo was taken from a slightly lower position, which may subtly affect the looks.
