A ten-minute review of a whole bunch of thumb drives with car company press kits, mainly Chrysler/Dodge/Ram/Jeep but also Porsche, Maserati, and some others... as interesting as I could make it! #presskit #mopar #memorabilia #autopress

Hi, my name's Dave. I'm here from Motales, and I'm here to guide you through an interesting
0:04
and I use that word in a very subjective way, a view of some of the USB drives that automakers have given out in lieu of the old paper press kit
0:16
So Prescott started out, they were typed sheets of paper, basically, and they would, if you were lucky, give you some 8 by 10 glossy photos
0:25
or if they were having problems keeping up the money. Just a note saying, if you want photos, call us up
0:33
because we don't have the money to print out photos for everybody. I went on and printing not cheaper and we started to get nicer press kits
0:40
Grisselor did one with those sheets of paper, now done on computer and put into little file folders
0:47
and in the little file folder box. And then we started getting loose leaf binders
0:51
and ever more complex and ever more complex. more distinctive press kits, at least from Chrysler, and other brands tended to stay with the
1:02
dollar form. But you could tell that Chrysler was getting more and more proud of their products
1:06
as the 90s went on because the press kits got bigger and more elaborate and because they give you
1:12
more and more information. But then, of course, everybody had computers, and first they started doing
1:18
CDs and DVDs in addition to the paper, and then they went whole-on USB thumb
1:25
drive only, but they could still decorate the thumb drives quite a bit, and that's what I want to show you
1:30
Let's start out with the Jeep Compass. So this is a nice, hefty, you can't tell from the video, but it is metal
1:40
And it's just a USB drive. It is a metal USB drive. It's quite nice
1:49
has a nice feel and you can hook it up and put it onto your car keys if you want
1:55
If you can't read that, it says media.fcaanorthamerica.com. I don't know if that's still true
2:04
And let's see. Let's have a contrasting one. Oh, wait. No, this is a nice one
2:09
As always, anything from MOPAR tends to be done really well. And this is one of the Mopar ones
2:15
And on the back, it's for Jeep Performance Parts, which was, a sort of co between Jeep and Mopar for aftermarket stuff And you can really see it This is not solid This is stitching all around So this is a more expensive piece than it might look like This is not painted These are different
2:34
plastics. See here is one of the very, very plain ones from Chrysler. It would be from a few years
2:40
ago because as you can see, it's 4 gigabyte. Here's a Toyota Press kit that looks fairly similar
2:47
As you can see, it's a little bigger and a little nicer, but it's very plain. This one
2:52
is kind of clever. It's from the Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross Launch. So there's Mitsubishi on the back
2:59
And if you push it out, you can stick it into your computer. This is, we have the full kit
3:06
This came with a binder, so this did not come alone. And this is for the entire company
3:11
although it says Chrysler on it. It is for Chrysler Group. Everything from 2014. And it's retractable
3:19
And that brings us to this 2015, full range product. information kit and it's a kit in a pen this by this time i'm not entirely sure that they were still
3:32
doing paper oh it's upside down so as you can see they've got uh ram dodge chrysler jeep fiat
3:39
afromayo and mopar on here no mazorati mazoradi's always run as its own division
3:46
there is fca at the end fca is active now and yet you still have the media dot christi
3:52
website on the end and it is a fully functional pen but you tick out the end and
4:00
here's your thumb drive you got all your information here put it back yeah might
4:10
well have this on screen while I struggle with it that is a lot nicer than say this
4:14
little Mazda one which all the same is quite functional and has the same type of
4:20
information on it. This is one from Maserati. You can barely see the logo now. It hasn't really
4:28
withstood the test of time. I'm pretty sure this is from when Maserati first came to the US
4:33
And then we have this one, which is somewhat nicer, and this is actual leather, as far as I can
4:37
tell. And this is a magnet. Close it. You get that nice. It's a nice leather
4:50
It a pleasure to use this thing That is sort of true of this Cadillac one which is however extremely heavy So you can flip it out like that
5:01
And then it is kind of awkward to actually use on a laptop
5:05
It's perfectly fine in some other cases. And it's got a nice, it almost feels like this is a ceramic
5:12
It doesn't feel like ordinary plastic. And this is definitely quite heavy
5:16
It's got halved here. Here's another cry for one. It looks nice. It's all plastic. Let's bring it up here
5:28
So I think this one was... I'm not sure what the W was for, or if it's actually an M
5:36
I really... I'm not quite sure what that's about. We've got a RAM one. This one looks exactly the same as the Maserati, and it works basically the same way. It's a little bit lighter in weight
5:47
and that might be to differentiate them. Here's a dodge one. It's from one of the Hellcat launches
5:56
Might be the original Hellcat launch. So Hellcat on one side, Dodge Stripes on the other
6:03
Sort of pull, pull, or push, a pull. You might have to take my word for it that there's, here we go
6:12
So there we go. You stick this into the computer. It weighs almost nothing
6:16
Let's do the drop test in you. Here it. It looks really pretty good
6:26
Let's put three of them together. Portia obviously used the same trick in 2016 and in..
6:36
Let's see what year is this. I actually can't tell what year this is. Green on white is very hard to read
6:42
I'm pretty sure this pops up. Yep. I have used this one a few times
6:46
It's not usually very convenient to use. And of course, you have the fact that Mr. Ferdinand Portia really loved Mr. Hitler and tried to help him as well as he could
7:00
And some people would say that was a bad thing. I'm one of them
7:05
I'm sorry if it's unfashionable. And then we have Maserati, and it's very similar
7:10
It feels heavier. Now, same basic principle. principle it swings out it was a little heavier and more expensive than the portion ones which is interesting You might remember the Levant that was based on the I think it was based on the Ghibli
7:28
It might have been the Quadro Port. It doesn't really matter because they're both basically based on the Chrysler 300C dimensions and a lot of the components
7:38
But that was really just a starting point, and they went on from there
7:42
So, you know, it was funny. The first time I drove a quadro port, I said, wow, this is everything that the 300
7:47
C promises. So let's see, 2016, this is the whole company's annual press kits
7:56
And let's see, turn this, and out it comes. This is a little more convenient shape in some ways
8:02
But, you know, the fancier you make the shape, the fewer computers you can use it in
8:06
So it's a little difficult to see. So this alpha-o-meo stick is really one of the easiest
8:12
It feels like it's actual metal. And then you flip it over. And the whole thing
8:17
is the thickness of a USB plug. And so you just shove it right in like that
8:24
And then we have finally this one, which I, this is Chevrolet, and here's, this is very heavy
8:31
So you can hear that. This is actual metal here, not plastic
8:36
with what seems to be leather. Let's see, there is a way to make this work
8:42
I can't remember if it rotates. Aha! Aha. There we go, and that comes out
8:54
This is from 2015, from the New York Auto Show. And it is a neat little press kit
9:01
It is very memorable, and you know exactly whose it is. It's a little hard to pop it out and make it work here
9:09
Despite that, you can see that you can just shove it right into your computer, even if it's
9:14
a laptop and your ports are kind of crowded. not going to be a problem. So that's pretty much it for this little collection. There are people with
9:30
bigger collections, I'm sure. This is what I had to show you. And I hope that you liked it, and I
9:38
hope that you had a good little time, and it was at least moderately interesting for you
9:42
And I'll see you soon. If you didn't like it, you're probably not still
9:46
But either way, I'll see you soon with something else
