Mopar Squads 2025: Dodge, Ram, and Jeep police cars

Hi there, this is Dave at Motales here, and I'm here to talk about the 2025 Dodge and Jeep police cars

So this is based on a story by AHB Guru over at All Park, and he kindly provided license to use it at stalpower

And first, let's talk about the charger. You would think it would be the ideal police car

The current one is pretty close to being the ideal police car. But the next generation was not provided to the Michigan State Police for testing, even though you would think it

electric police car does have its uses because a lot of police agencies only use their cars for

eight-hour shifts, and then you can charge it up and have it ready for the next one

Fleet use is in some ways the ideal because you can make sure that you've got enough chargers

You don't have to fast cook them. You can let them go for 16 hours, get a nice full charge

But nope, at this time, there is no police edition of the electric charger

and there is no police edition given for testing of the gasoline-powered charger

which is due out early next year. So Michigan State Police weren't able to test them, maybe next month the police tests in California take place

and maybe there will be something there, maybe not. Now, there's no real news in the Durango front

They still got the WD Durango Pursuit car started production in August 2023 It largely the 2024 model

It has the Pentastar V6, and for as long as they can get away with it, they will have

the 5.7 Hemmy V8. Most people expect that there will be a smooth transition

When they run out of the V8s, they'll start using Hurricane 6s. A lot of people really don't like that idea

They believe in a V8, but the Hurricane 6, compared to... to the 5.7V8 and has a good deal more power and it runs on regular gasoline, not mid-grade

As for reliability, the jury is still out on the hurricane. It's not old enough. There have been

some reports of problems. There have also been reports that we know what the problems are caused

by, and it's nothing internal to the engine. It's a wiring and computer issue, which has been

resolved and is being resolved in terms of warranty parts. We all know, Salantis is a little

slow at that kind of thing these days, but it will be done. And the last bunch of police

hemis appear to have largely been defective with an awful lot of premature deaths reported by

police departments on their engines. And so it's, that's also an issue and that's not even

turbocharged Now as for 2027 Durangoes so the Durango Pursuit is available in 11 colors It still has a five 100 miles for fleet owners only and it can only be ordered by fleet buyers with an authorization number This is related to the Durango Pursuit only

You can buy a regular Durango without any of that stuff. Along with the Durango Department's

can get a Jeep Waggeneer L, that's the long version. SSV, that's a special service vehicle

It's not a pursuit edition. It's meant for administration and, Karen dogs around and stuff like that, not chasing down speeders and bank robbers and stuff

It's meant to compete with the suburban and the expedition, no surprise, same class

The RAM 1500 special service vehicle is also back and it's powered by the Hurricane Turbo 6

and it whumps the Hemmy V8 that used to be in there by all accounts that we've got in over at

stealth power and elsewhere. It looks as though the standard output hurricane really is a much

better engine for speed than the old 5.7 hemie was. Dodge does not provide a pursuit-rated version of

the RAM-1500. That's probably a wise choice when you look at how the pickups from competitors

come out when they test them as police cars. Just to summarize, good acceleration, terrible breaking

terrible handling Not what you want in a police car As for the RAM 2 and 3 special service vehicles those are also still in production The 6 V8 is still available and for now that all that we know This is what

been released by Stalantis to the fleet, which is to say by FCAUS, which is to say by Dodge

Deep and Ram. It does take time to convert a regular civilian car to police use. There's all sorts of

things that are done to it. The body is stiffened and strengthened. The suspension is stiffened

You don't really want to buy an old police car unless you really like being jiggled around on smooth

roads. They also have to beef up the power. They have to get it set up for aftermarket uses

which is to say, you know, all the sirens and stuff have to have a place to plug in. They have to

have a place that controls the electrical. And it's a lot of stuff. In the past few years

they've also been doing things like having computer mounts in the trunk and then having wires

go up so that you can have a trunk mounted computer. And then up front, you've got your

integrated display and your keyboard and your mouse and all that so that the police can use

all the current high-tech gear that they've got. And yet, it'll be safe in a crash

and that's something that Dodge really led the way with, and that's something that I bet that they'll put into the next police charger if there is a next police charger. And with that, I'm signing off
