STLA Large was officially launched on January 19, 2024, many believe it was led by people in
0:05
Auburn Hills, the former Chrysler headquarters. The platform will be used for front, rear
0:11
and all-wheel drive based vehicles in the D and E sizes, such as the Charger
0:15
Quattropit, and Grand Cherokee, or more immediately, Wagoneer S and possibly Jeep Recon
0:21
shown here. It has a lot of flexibility in terms of wheelbase, length, width, height
0:27
and ground clearance. Some believe the current Grand Cherokee was the most immediate predecessor
0:32
of the new platform, it was reportedly completely new, not based on the old WK2 or Georgio or any
0:38
other existing platform. STLA Large can take a variety of suspension modules and powertrain
0:43
cradles, so the feel and performance can be quite different, and Jeeps based on it can be trail
0:48
rated for off-road driving. Engineers can even adjust dimensions such as the front spindle to
0:53
the driver's foot or the passenger compartment floor. Eight STLA Large vehicles are to be
0:58
launched from 2024-26, Dodge and Jeep come first, Charger, Wagoneer S, followed by Alfa Romeo
1:05
Chrysler, and Maserati. The platform can support gasoline and hybrid electric power plants
1:11
with transverse or longitudinal engine mounts, and front, rear, or all-wheel drive. However
1:18
STLA Large is also a native battery electric platform with 400-volt and 800-volt architectures
1:24
Three-in-one electric drive modules, EDMs, include the motor, power inverter, and gear reduction
1:31
they can be set up to drive the front, rear, or all wheels. Silicon carbide semiconductors
1:36
minimize power losses in the inverter. Stellantis explicitly stated that the platform can carry
1:42
extreme power that will outperform any of the existing Hellcat V8s. The first generation of
1:47
components holds the potential to run 0-62mph in the 2-second range. The first cars on STLA
1:54
Large will probably have gasoline engines, like the Hurricane 6 in this image, coupled to a
1:59
traditional automatic transmission. The first electric STLA Large cars will have battery packs
2:05
with 85-118kWh, with a targeted range of 500 miles, this figure is for sedans, not crossovers
2:14
STLA Large goes up to 201.8 inches long and 79.9 inches wide. It seems likely that since
2:21
Large allows for front-wheel drive, the next generation minivans will be on Large, not Medium
2:27
though, Patrick Rowe at Stellpower.com checked out STLA Large against current Mopars, and found
2:32
that the Wagoneer was around a foot too long to fit on Large, but chances are that the Wagoneer S
2:37
will have nearly the same interior space as the Wagoneer, because the all-electric car won't need
2:42
much of an engine bay. It matches up reasonably well to the current Charger and 300. STLA Large
2:49
covers quite a wide range, but it gets better, the ground clearance can run from 5.5 to 11.3
2:55
inches and the wheelbase can run from 113.0 to 121.1 inches. Tyres can run up to 32.6 inches
3:04
which is Wrangler turf. Overall, STLA Large now looks as though it can handle pretty much all the
3:09
Mopars without much compromise, other than dropping two holes from the engine. Some will
3:14
find lack of a V8 to be impossible to overcome, while others will notice more power and higher
3:19
fuel economy from the Hurricane series. STLA Large is coming, soon. Motels.com and Stellpower.com
